Choose careers that will help in nation building, Seaga tells JC boys
Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga has urged Jamaica College (JC) students to choose subject areas that will enable them to play more integral roles in nation building.
“Think, as you decide what you want to do [as a career], about the subjects needed in the society to develop the country and your own development,” Seaga told a group of students at the all-boys institution yesterday.
Seaga was addressing the group during a function at which he was presented with a copy of columnist Hartley Neita’s book The Search.
He advised that an important subject area to get into was the natural sciences, which would aid in technological developments. He also urged the students to “read ahead of the subject areas” they wish to enter at the tertiary level in order to be at an advantage in their studies.
Proceeds from the book by Neita, a past student of JC, will go towards the development of the institution.
The book, which was released four months ago, is mostly about five schoolboys, who in 1939 went on a journey into the Blue mountains, and could not be found.
The book was presented to Seaga, who is not a JC old boy, because of his contribution and love for the country.
