Exuma the obeah man
Dear Editor,
Your article on Desmond McKenzie was interesting, but I would appreciate it if you could make a small correction. Exuma, the obeah man, was not an African artiste.
He was, in fact, one of the best known interpreters of Bahamian music and folklore. His real name was Tony McKay, but he chose the name Exuma after one of the beautiful islands of The Bahamas.
It means a lot to us Bahamians. He was our Bob Marley, and was respected internationally as a true caretaker of Bahamian culture.
