Race on for semi-final spots
BUNKERS HILL, Trelawny — The race for semi-final places in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League is expected to intensify with the start of the third round on the weekend.
Two games are scheduled for Sunday, both parish derbies – Invaders will meet Harmony in a Trelawny derby at Bunkers Hill, while Jericho Rangers and Mt Pelier will meet in the Hanover derby at Elgin Town.
Four other games are scheduled for Tuesday.
The third round will be played on a cross-zone format with teams from either zone facing each other once.
The top four teams on points regardless of zone will then advance to the semi-finals, while the bottom four will be relegated to the respective parish competitions.
Meanwhile, former champions and Zone 1 winners Wadadah FC on Sunday hammered Zone 2 winners Savannah FC 4-0 in the mid -season finals played at the Frome Sports Complex.
Savannah FC who were promoted to the Super League after winning the Westmoreland FA Major League last season, will go into the third round as the clear leaders on 21 points, three more than Wadadah with Catherine Hall on 17 points and Granville FC on 16, filling out the top four.
