HOLLAND ROAD, Trelawny — Holland High School of Trelawny will make their debut in the ISSA daCosta Cup schoolboys football competition when the season kicks off in September.

The eight -year- old co-educational school, located a few chains from William Knibb Memorial, will compete in the new look Zone C that will also see Muschett High and Spot Valley, who were shifted from Zone A, as well as Hopewell High in Hanover.

Holland will join Clarendon’s Foga Road High as the two newcomers who will join 82 other schools, including nine who are retuning after periods of absences.

Thirty-two schools from western Jamaica will participate in the competition that will run for four months.

The announcement was made at last Thursday’s annual daCosta Cup planning meeting held at Manchester High School, Manchester, and chaired by daCosta Cup committee chairman Denham McIntyre and ISSA’s Competition Officer George Forbes.

And in response for calls to lessen the workload on the young players, ISSA has expanded the zones from 12 to 15 resulting in no more than six schools contesting any one zone.

This, Forbes told Observer West, would see schools playing just twice each week and would give the organisers enough time for rescheduled matches–should there be any– without holding up the smooth flow of the competition.

The 2012 schoolboys season will get underway with daCosta Cup champions Rusea’s High and Manning Cup and Olivier Shield champions St George’s College participating in a double header.

Meanwhile, the new zones and the return of nine schools to the competition –including four in western Jamaica– will see several schools shifting zones.

The returning schools are Cambridge High, former champions Herbert Morrison Technical, Hopewell High, Maggotty High, DeCarteret College, BB Coke High , Cross Keys High, Islington High and Yallahs High.

Anchovy will return to Zone A after playing in Zone B for several years; Spot Valley High and Muschett High will join the new look Zone C; Knockalva Technical moves from Zone B to join the Westmoreland- based schools in Zone D; Balaclava High will move to Zone F, while Cedric Titus and Albert Town will stay with the St Ann based- schools, but they will contest what is now Zone I.
