Deal with dollar slide and other problems
Dear Editor,
The Jamaican dollar continues to slip dramatically and is now approaching $89 to US$1. How so? What is it that this government is not doing, or what is it that the JLP used to do to prevent that? Doesn’t our debt increase as the dollar increases, and doesn’t it affect prices of our imported products?
Why is nobody talking about this serious problem? Is it that some sectors are benefiting from this slippage? Where are the talk show hosts and columnists who used to scream about everything when the JLP was in power?
Why are there so many things going wrong since January and nobody is showing any concern? Is it plain politics? If that is so, we are indeed in serious trouble, what with the escalating crime and this foolish controversy with the 50th aniversary celebrations. With regard to the celebrations, one gets the impression that the former minister did a lot of work. Why is it that those plans are not being followed through?
