VCB, Felix arrive for 100m clash
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Veronica Campbell-Brown and her perennial rival American Allyson Felix both arrived in the island Thursday for their 100m clash at the Jamaica International Invitational at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday.
The match-up is expected to be the highlight of the meet after several high-profile names pulled out of the men’s sprint events.
Among those who have withdrawn are Jamaica’s top three sprinters, Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell as well as Lerone Clarke and Trinidad and Tobago’s 2008 Olympic silver medallist, Richard Thompson.
Campbell-Brown and Felix, who have claimed the last three Olympic and four world championship titles between them, will also face the Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure, who has been having a stellar indoor season this year with a world-leading 6.99 seconds over the 60m.
Trinidad and Tobago’s World Championship bronze medalist Kelly-Ann Baptiste will also run in the event.
