Cop killer files appeal
CHRISTOPHER Thomas, the man convicted of murdering police Corporal Dave Daley in 2007 is now appealing his conviction and sentence.
Thomas was sentenced in September in the Home Circuit Court to 40 years’ imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum term of 20 years before becoming eligible for parole.
In his preliminary grounds for appeal filed this month, Thomas cited contradictory evidence presented by the prosecution; failure by the trial judge to direct the jury as to manslaughter; unfair conduct by the prosecution; and excessive sentence and minimum term.
Further grounds are expected to be filed.
Thomas was convicted on Thursday, July 11 in a re-trial that was ordered after his first trial in 2010 ended in a hung jury.
Corporal Daley, who was assigned to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, was attacked and killed in Brook Valley, Duhaney Park, St Andrew, on February 12, 2007.
