FOOD FIGHT – Manning Cup captains battle for teenCHEF
WE will all remember the impressive showdown to the last whistle in the Manning Cup finals between Jamaica College and Wolmer’s Boys School.
Team captains, Kemo Wallace (Wolmer’s) and Sherrick Davis (JC), both from the all-boys schools could not resist taking the competition to another level as sought to find the better chef of the two.
More than depicting friendly sportsmanship, they showcased their cooking skill at Chewsday’s Restaurant Grill & Jerk.
Each representative was provided with food items including chicken breast, penne pasta, flour and rice and had 45 minutes to prepare a dish.
The competitors, without their team members, were judged based on creativity, plating, tabling and decoration, school colour and theme, taste, cleanliness, use of ingredients, as well as use of time. Judges included executive chef and teenCHEF consultant, Karl Thomas; teenAGE writer and teenCHEF conceptuliser, Gavin Plowright; and manager of Chewsday’s Restaurant Grill & Jerk, Jillian Thomas.
After the culinary whistle ended play, judges deliberated and awarded the representative from the Wolmer’s teams the winner in this finals.
