Making a forceful statement the De Jour way
Force De Jour, after a brief struggle up the straight with Bubbling Angeline, skipped away to land the Sweet Ruckus Trophy over seven furlongs yesterday at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by stable jockey Shane Ellis, Force De Jour was notching his fourth win from four starts and is almost certain to be named the top two-year-old in the male category.
Force De Jour broke well on the inside and picked up the lead from Bubbling Angelina (Percival Williams). He cruised along nicely without any real challenge from the 300-metre pole before he was attacked by Bubbling Angeline, turning for home. They almost rubbed shoulders for a brief moment, but when Ellis asked the bay colt by Sharp Humor-Song Bird to go, he powered away to win comfortably by five lengths from Bubbling Angeline with Miss Juantia (O’Brien White) running on for third. Force De Jour recorded a winning time of 1:27:2 minutes.
In the co-feature of the day, the Steward’s Cup, the out-of-class Talented Tony K (Omar Walker) romped the event by a commanding 10 lengths. Sent off as the second favourite, Talented Tony K got off to a slow start but recovered quickly and ran away from his five rivals. He covered 1,000 metres round in a fast time of 1:00:4 minutes winning by 10 lengths. Talented Tony K is trained by Lorne Kirlew, who must be in the fray for the most improved trainer for 2013.
So racing for 2013 came to an end with Dane Nelson confirming his status as the champion jockey after another double on the day. Carlton Watson is the new champion owner and for the 13th time in his illustrious career; Wayne DaCosta is the champion trainer.
On Wednesday next, New Year’s Day, the 2014 season will get under way.
