Flag under fire
IN February, singer Barrington Levy’s song Murderer was used in a German television ad in which persons stomped on the Jamaican flag.
The scene was widely condemned in Jamaica and by Levy who recorded the song in 1984.
“They could have found a different method to do that. I never liked that at all,” said Levy.
The ad was produced
by the Saturn Coffee Shop. Levy says Saturn’s management approached him to use Murderer as part of its promotional campaign.
He gave permission for the song to be used but said he had no idea the visual would involve offensive use of the Jamaican banner.
