Portmore woman accused of embezzling money from insurance company
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A Portmore woman has been charged with embezzlement after it was discovered that she was swindling money from her employers.
The accused has been identified as 31-year-old Sharlene Rookwood of Monza in Greater Portmore, St Catherine. She was employed as a sales representative at an insurance company in Kingston.
Rookwood has been accused of collecting more than J$500,000 on behalf of her employers from several clients for insurance coverage, which she didn’t pay over to the company. This was done between February and August this year.
The police were called in and an investigation launched into the matter, resulting in her being arrested and charged on Wednesday.
She was offered bail in the sum of $100,000 with surety.
She is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday, September 25.
