23 firearms seized since start of 2016
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police are reporting the seizure of three firearms across the island on Saturday, bringing the total number of guns seized to 23 since the start of the year.
The first weapon was seized in Penfield district, Gordon Town, St Andrew about 2:00 pm. Reports are that police were on operation in the area when they observed a motor vehicle covered by a tarpaulin. A search revealed a Smith and Wesson revolver and two .38 cartridges on top of the vehicle.
In the second incident, the Falmouth police seized a 9mm pistol with three 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation in Granville, Trelawny. Reports are that about 2:00 pm Police were on operation when an abandoned building was searched and the firearm and ammunition allegedly recovered.
The third seizure occurred in St Thomas where officers recovered an AK-47 assault rifle in Back Bush, Morant Bay about 6:30 pm.
No one was arrested in connection with the seizures.
