Domino programme boosts learning in primary schools
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Humbert Davis, National Association of Domino Bodies first vice-president, says that since the introduction of the domino programme in primary schools across Jamaica, there have been great improvements in students’ academic levels.
“Domino has now become a more popular sport within the primary schools. Not only because it is fun to play, but also it has helped the students within their learning abilities,” he said. “There have been many situations where the domino programme has helped these students or otherwise called slow learners.
“For instant, a boy from the Mount Moreland Primary and Junior High School came into the programme and couldn’t even read and now he has got a scholarship and is attending the St Jago High School,” Davis said.
The first vice-president said the objectives of the programme are centred around three verbs – conduct, contract and construct.
“The individuals involved will get an understanding of these three words, from a more practical sense, using domino as the cellular units in achieving this understanding,” he said
“Once they have a complete practical understanding of these, gathering this information from performing actions involving these verbs, their understanding will reciprocate in their daily behaviours outside of the programme,” Davis continued. “This will in turn improve their general morals and attitude.”
