MANNING CUP: KC, Wolmer’s expected to continue winning form

MANNING CUP: KC, Wolmer’s expected to continue winning form

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kingston College (KC) and Wolmer’s Boys School are expected to continue their impeccable run or form in this year’s Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/FLOW Manning Cup competition in two of 12 games scheduled to be contested across four groups on Friday.

All games are set to kick off at 3:30 pm.

KC are currently scorching on maximum 18 points from six outings, and are well on their way to taking Group C honours  from where they should be a dangerous candidate for at least one of, if not all three titles on offer.

They are by far the most attacking team in the competition, so far, this year with 35 goals in six games with a mere one against, and their gulf in class could again show when they travel to the Edward Seaga Complex to battle Denham Town High School.

Denham Town, a semi-finalist from last year, currently occupy second spot on 15 points with their only loss coming against the same opponents in a 4-0 score line in first-leg action.

Both teams have already cemented their spots in the second round following comfortable victories on Tuesday. KC marched past St Mary’ College 5-0, while Denham Town had a 3-0 score line against Norman Manley.

This should make for an interesting contest, but the West Kingston-based team though optimistic about turning the tables, are once again faced with a stiff challenge of getting past the Ludlow Bernard-coached KC unit lined with a vast amount of talent.

The prolific Rashawn Mackinson, who netted all four goals in their previous meeting, is once again expected to lead from the front for KC and improve is tally of 14 goals as the competition’s leading marksman.

Meanwhile, Group F leaders Wolmer’s Boys (18 points), like KC have secured a second round berth, but will be looking to maintain their impressive run against fourth-place Dunoon Technical (six points) at Rockfort Football Club.

The Heroes Circle team is the second most attacking team so far this season with 22 goals in their six outings without conceding. The newfound attacking ability of the Vassel Reynolds-conditioned team should again see them proving a handful for the opponent that they defeated 2-0 in a previous meeting.
