#TrackingMatthew: No truth to reports of 6 o’clock lock-off, says JPS
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says there is no truth to rumours circulating on social media platforms that the company will be shutting off power at 6:00 pm.
The power company said in a news release this afternoon, that the decision to turn off the power is dependent on the strength of Hurricane Matthew and the likely damage to the system.
“Every hurricane is different, so JPS has to monitor the circumstances associated with the hurricane and respond accordingly. It is therefore difficult to predict if, and when, the power is likely to be turned off.
“However, once the decision is made, the company will advise the public via the electronic media and social media,” JPS stated.
