1,800 attend Xerox job fair
Business process outsourcing firm Xerox Corporation indicated recently that 1,800 applicants from parishes as far away as St Elizabeth were processed at its job fair in Naggo Head, Portmore, on Saturday September 24.
The company said it expects to meet its recruitment targets despite the fact that at least two other business process outsourcing companies are seeking workers at the same time.
Earlier in the month the company advertised the need for 2,500 new workers. Subsequently, IBEX Global disclosed that it needed 400 workers, while Sutherland Global advertised for 1,600 workers.
The Jamaica Observer saw long lines outside the company’s Naggo Head office as men and women continued to arrive to submit their applications.
In response to questions put to the company, Xerox said that all 1,800 applicants came from the parishes of St Catherine, Manchester, St Elizabeth and Clarendon.
From 11 locations in Jamaica, Xerox provides support for corporations operating in industries such as health care — including pharmaceuticals — telecommunications, retail, transportation and high-tech.
A company spokesperson commented, “As the largest business process services (BPS) employer in Jamaica with 7,000 team members, Xerox Services has always been very aggressive in recruiting the right people for the right jobs. Jamaica is a very competitive marketplace and our potential employees know the value of starting and developing their career at Xerox Services.”
The company said it provides a “competitive compensation package” for employees that includes market-competitive base pay plus performance bonus, health insurance, and company-paid life insurance.
Other benefits include on-site medical clinic services, staff recognition programmes, and career-growth opportunities.
Xerox said it is seeking to fill positions for customer care associates, supervisors, trainers, workforce analysts, quality analysts and operations managers.
