Dear Editor,

The right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint is that of every citizen of this country, whether they are well-known or otherwise.

This right or privilege is also something that those in the media fight for and hold dear for their profession, and it should be so guarded.

However, when those who should believe in free speech facilitate and seemingly disregard the attacks to demonise fellow citizens, whether because of their positions on certain issues, it should not be condoned.

The attack on former minister, Sandrea Falconer, because of her comments related to the prime minister’s choice of colours during his hurricane tours, is despicable. It is her right as a citizen to ask questions of her prime minister and nothing that she said justifies comparing her to any animal.

If it is her opinion that the prime minsitert was politicking during a time of national crisis, she must be allowed to express it. And if anyone feels offended or holds general disagreement with her, write about it.

The attack on her on social media after she has served her country is no different than what now obtains in the USA, courtesy of Donald Trump, towards women in general.
