Bridgeport Primary clinch INSPORTS Portmore title
BRIDGEPORT Primary captured the INSPORTS Portmore Primary Schools Football League title with a 1-0 win over Naggo Head at the Portsmouth Primary School playfield on Tuesday.
Bridgeport’s goal in the sixth minute of the first half proved decisive.
The Bridgeport aggregation also became the first school to have won the title twice in the ‘Sunshine City’.
Naggo Head, who were beaten in last season’s final, did everything they could to claim victory, but were denied by a resolute Bridgeport, led by Captain Omario Thompson who was later named MVP in the final.
Meanwhile, hosts Portmouth secured third place in dramatic fashion, beating Waterford 3-2.
Waterford were on course for victory when Demario Knight scored his second goal of the game to give them a 2-1 lead with two minutes remaining in the third-place play-off game.
However, Tareek Beckford scored for Portsmouth on the stroke of full-time before teammate Alex Reid, who scored the game’s first goal, shot home the winner in time added on.
Reid and Knight shared the Golden Boot award after both strikers ended the competition with 10 goals each.
Winning Coach Raymond Allen, who received a special recognition by organisers, said he was confident of winning the title after reaching the last four.
“We know we would have done well, but we never knew that we would eventually win (at first). But after reaching the semi-finals we knew that the team could go all the way,” he said.
