The Sports Club at PwC in Jamaica
What is currently the Sports Club at PwC in Jamaica, actually started out as an Outreach Committee at what was then Price Waterhouse. The committee later joined with the Inter-Audit Sports Committee and then with staff from Coopers & Lybrand when the two firms merged in 1999. Our first big event was a fashion show, which was a tremendous success and acted as a catalyst to integrating the staff from both firms in to the powerhouse team we are now – at PricewaterhouseCoopers!
The Sports Club have since then, and continue to, stage events every year, including after-work lymes at the the Mirage Night Club in Sovereign Plaza, hikes to the Blue Mountains, fish-fry at the Police Officers Club, Oldies Night at the Deck, Jamaica Day Lymes & Lunches, Labour Day projects (from Covenant Christian Academy to St. Michael’s Primary), games evenings on Paddington Terrace, beach/field trips to Tropicana Sugar Co., our annual Sports Day, cake sales, raffles, and so on.
The PwC Sports Club has remained extremely active over the years with a goal of promoting work-life balance for, and deepening relationships with our people. Through fostering team spirit and camaraderie, we have entered and won the inter-audit badminton, track and field, table tennis and football competitions and we continue to be competitive in these annual events. Our main event for the year is our annual Sports Day where we get to engage in a day of fun and friendly rivalry for the coveted champion’s trophy. The Sports Club also organises two major annual outreach programmes which includes the Labour Day project and annual Christmas treat at our adopted school, St. Michael’s Primary and Infant School as part of the firm’s Corporate Responsibility efforts.
The Sports Club has always been a great avenue for our people to develop and demonstrate leadership, social and civic attributes. Our alumnus includes former partner Max Rochester, current partners Recardo Nathan and Damion Dodd, as well as Caydion Campbell, Maria Pettigrew & Charmaine Burris Keyes. Our current executive members are Nicole Henry – President, Jade Wright – Vice President, Rochelle Samuels – Secretary and Patrice Levy – Events Coordinator.
