Garfield “Garry” Sinclair has been promoted to the position of president, Caribbean, for communications giant FLOW, the Jamaica Observer was reliably informed last night.

Sinclair, who is now CEO of FLOW Jamaica, will take up his new post on January 1, 2017 and will be based at the company’s corporate office in Miami, Florida.

The Observer was unable to contact Sinclair for a comment last night, but a highly placed source with knowledge of the development said he will be responsible for the company’s strategic direction and financial performance in the Caribbean.

According to the source, Sinclair will focus on FLOW’s business to consumer and business to business base across the Caribbean, as well as the company’s long-range plans.

The decision to promote Sinclair was apparently grounded in his experience in growing businesses.

For instance, he is credited with guiding FLOW to a growth in its mobile subscriber base from 200,000 to one million over the past seven years.

In addition, his performance as president and chief operating officer at Dehring, Bunting and Golding — where he was responsible for the overall treasury and asset trading, information technology and marketing functions — saw the investment bank grow from a start-up to one of the top entities in the financial services industry regionally.

Sinclair has been CEO and director at Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited since October 2010. He served as senior auditor with Pricewaterhouse responsible for planning, staffing and executing audits of some of Jamaica’s largest financial institutions, and was the chairman of Kingston Properties Ltd.

He also served on the board of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

He is a certified public accountant with the California Board of Accountancy, has an executive certificate in strategy and innovation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology — Sloan School of Management in 2007 — and completed an Executive Development Programme in 2004 from University of Pennsylvania (Wharton).

Sinclair holds a BSc in Business Administration (Accounting) from San Diego State University, California, USA.
