#Champs2017: Reid defends Class Three 400m title, Heywood tops boys’ event
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Joanne Reid of St Jago High School successfully defended her Class Three 400m title, while Devante Heywood of Munro College took the boys’ section in the first track final of the final day of the 107th staging of the ISSA/ GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium a short while ago.
Reid, who scarcely competed over the distance this season and opted for speed work in the sprint events, won going away from the field in 54.29 seconds, ahead of Garriel White (55.28s) of Hydel and Holmwood Technical’s Daniella Deer (55.85s).
Meanwhile, Heywood won the boys’ event in fine style in a time of 50.22 seconds, followed in by Tajay Roberts (51.33s) of Calabar and Martin Rose (51.71s) of Excelsior.
