Friends of Clark’s Town to stage run/walk for school
The Friends of Clark’s Town Charity Foundation in collaboration with the administration of the Clark’s Town Primary School will stage its inaugural Five-mile Run/Walk on Saturday, commencing at 6:00 am.
The scores of competitors expected to participate will begin their run/walk at the Clark’s Town Primary School ground and continue along the main thoroughfare towards Duncans, ending at the Spicy Hill/ Samuel Prospect crossing, and then back to the starting point.
According to Winsome Williams, one of the organisers of the event, proceeds from the run/walk will go toward improving the functionality of the Clark’s Town Primary School in three specific areas; academic, social and physical.
“Among the challenges we have identified is the continuous temporary use of partitioned classrooms for several necessary functions — internal/external examinations, art and performance activities and other indoor projects. The long-standing tradition of conducting devotional ceremonies and group addresses outdoors is also a major problem, due to constant disruptions from natural elements such as rain, sun, unsuitable temperatures, and other outdoor stimuli,” she said.
“Along with the obvious physical issues, these problems also significantly affect administrative effectiveness and the morale within the school population. We have determined the most suitable solution to these issues to be the construction of a multi-purpose building, which would serve several purposes in enhancing the functionality and growth of the institution in the aforementioned areas. It is to this end we are hosting our first run/walk.”
