Gary Glitter has already proven that he can step with the ‘big boys’ after a superb run in the Grade One – Lady Geeta Trophy two weeks ago.

Ridden then by the rarely used Chalwick Budhai, Gary Glitter was outdone in the end by Campesino by half-a-length in the (six furlong -1,200m) event and had the two-time Horse of the Year, Seeking My Dream behind his tail. The final time was 1:11.1.

Last Saturday, Gary Glitter, under Rayan Wilson, in another fine sprinting display, defeated rivals by over a length in the class below, an Open Allowance event over six and a half furlongs (1,300m).

Gary Glitter was smartly held off the pace as the speed upfront was controlled by Talented Tony K (O’Brien White) followed by Crucial Appeal (Jevvanne Erwin) and Polly B (Hakeem Pottinger) for the first part of the race.

At the half-mile, the pace was expected to increase and so it did as Crucial Appeal challenged Talented Tony K for the lead, opening up some four lengths on Gary Glitter who was sent in chase of the leaders.

Turning for home and going five wide, Wilson let loose and Gary Glitter, in a swift change of gears, blew past Crucial Appeal in the last furlong to score by one-and-a-quarter lengths in a decent 1:19.2.

Crucial Appeal did well to finish second ahead of Soy El Senor (Dane Dawkins) and Royal Vibes (Jerome Innis). Trainer Dalton Sirjue said that he is looking forward to his charge returning to the Grade One level.

“It was a very good performance by Gary Glitter to win this race against some good horses. He is a very nice horse who is going places as he is getting from strength to strength each time he races.

“He is now back in Grade One company, and I think he will do good there. We ran there before and came a close second to Campesino, which I think was a very good run,” Sirjue said.
