Despite Uppa Tune’s victory in an Overnight Allowance event last Saturday which signalled a welcome return to form, trainer Ian Parsard is informing that his former top-class campaigner is heading to the stud farm come early next year to serve as a stallion.

The eight-year-old bay horse showed that despite his many years, he still has much to offer when he romped home by over two lengths in a time of 1:32.2 over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m).

“He (Uppa Tune) has a lot of issues and if we continue to race him unnecessarily you might not get him off the track one day; we therefore have to be judicious with our programme with him.

“These ‘old guys’ really have an uphill task and like I said, he has had quite a bit of problems for us to deal with, so we have slated him for stud next year. We are going to try and manage him throughout the remainder of this year,” Parsard told the

As is his normal custom,Uppa Tune, under Robert Halledeen, shot to an early uncontested lead which he increased after leaving the half-mile, opening up some five lengths ahead of the chasing pack.

Although shortening a bit in the final stages of the race, Uppa Tune had already done the damage and coasted home by two-and-a-quarter lengths over Another Fury (Anthony Thomas), Ian Links (Omar Walker) and Classy Aviator (Aaron Chatrie) in that order.

“The performance I think was good enough. We believe he can win a couple of races and that is fine but I am not going to press him hard to do so. Uppa Tune ran well today, he was lucky to not have any contending speed and so he had everything his own way but as you could see, he was weakening in the final stages of the race. Under normal circumstances he would have won by at least 10 lengths. We are happy for the win, as a win is a win and we are grateful for it,” Parsard said.
