THERE were big performances at Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition held at D’Entrance on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew last Saturday.

The evening started off with an intense face-off between Shalyric and Japanese competitor Rankin Pumpkin. The latter was in a no-nonsense mood. She came out decked in a samurai suit and delivered an impressive set. Shalyric attempted to respond, but the moment proved too much as she fell off the rhythm, ending her journey in the competition.

In what was the evening’s highlight, Rally Banks and Tatik went into overdrive as both delivered on-point and cutting-edge lyrics in their face-off. The audience edge was in frenzy as either contestant could have been declared the winner. The judges, however, chose Tatik to move on.

The Seaview Gardens-based Rally Banks was gracious in defeat.

“Congratulations to Tatik. We both delivered tonight, but the judges had a decision to make and they made it. It has been a good journey. I learned a lot about the hard work and dedication to continuously produce good music and that is what I will focus on now,” said Rally Banks.

Symatic was also on top form as he gave one of his best performances of the season. Vanzo was as consistent as ever as he once again showed his versatility and lyricism, capturing the audience inside D’Entrance.

Princess Ali Ferrari was also a standout with her song Perilous Times and Bad Gyal Bambi and Suspense were in good nick. Duo Keke and Frenchy put their spin on Buju Banton’s Batty Rider which had the audience erupting with approval.

Six princes and six princesses now remain on Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Season 10, which continues on Saturday. The male and female winner will each receive $1.5-million and a chance to work with top industry producer Troyton.
