The local and international athletics community was this morning stunned by news of the death of retired Jamaican-born British Olympic athlete Germaine Mason, who was heading home from a party about 4:20am when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and in East Kingston.

2. Asafa pulls out of World Relays

Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell has pulled out of the International Association of Atletics Federation (IAAF) World Relays set for this weekend in The Bahamas.

3. 14-y-o girl murdered in Kingston

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this morning’s murder of a 14-year-old girl on Woodpecker Avenue in Kingston 11.

4. Johnson Smith reports 82% decrease in number of J’cans refused entry to T&T

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith this morning reported an 82 per cent reduction in the number of instances involving Jamaicans being refused entry into Trinidad and Tobago.

5. Tesha Miller released without charge

Reputed Klansman don Tesha Miller has been released from police custody without charge following a ruling by Parish Judge Vaughn Smith earlier today that he be charged or released by 4:00 pm.

6. Agreement made for barred final-year UWI students to sit exams

The Ministry of Education last evening made an agreement for final-year students at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, who were barred due to outstanding school fees, to sit their exams.

7. US Olympic champ Rollins banned for failing to file whereabouts info

Reigning Olympic 100m hurdles champion Brianna Rollins has been handed a one-year suspension for failing to properly file whereabouts information for out-of-competition testing, the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said Thursday.

8. Alleged Romanian scammer remanded

Romanian Claudio Precup, who has been accused of being the mastermind behind an automated teller machine (ATM) scam that has created apprehension in the banking sector, was this morning remanded when he appeared in Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

9. Retired nurse donates land to Black River Hospital

Tatleen Vassell, a retired nurse who is now living overseas on Tuesday donated 5.0627 hectares of land, valued at $8.6 million, to the Black River Hospital (BRH) in St Elizabeth.

10. Gov’t monitoring Venezuela unrest, ready to assist 50 J’cans located there

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith this morning reported that the Government of Jamaica is closely monitoring ongoing civil unrest in Venezuela and is committed to protecting the 50 Jamaicans located in the South American region.
