1. Second suspect charged in Cassava Piece murder

A 23-year-old is the second suspect to be charged in relation to the June 5 murder of Lorenzo Thomas o/c ‘Chulups’ and ‘Israel’ in Cassava Piece, St Andrew.

2. Gov’t refers 30 Windrush cases to British High Commission — Charles Jr

State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Pearnel Charles Jr says the ministry has referred 30 cases related to the Windrush immigration crisis to the British High Commission.

3. Miss Lou treasure discovered at book sale in UK, handed over to NLJ

The National Library of Jamaica (NLJ) says a signed copy of one of the first books written by the late Dr Louise “Miss Lou” Bennett-Coverley has been discovered at a second-hand book sale in the United Kingdom (UK).

4. UK Gov’t to commemorate annual Windrush day

United Kingdom Home Secretary, Sajid Javid has announced the UK Government’s plan to commemorate an annual Windrush Day to be observed on 22nd June each year

5.  Chandimal sweats as Sri Lanka and West Indies draw 2nd test

Kraigg Brathwaite’s defiance and more inclement weather ensured a draw on the final day of the second Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia today.

6. Police report significant gains in St Catherine North in SOE

Just a few weeks before the scheduled end to the state of emergency (SOE) in St Catherine North, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gary Griffiths, ground commander, said since the operation began on March 18, there have been significant gains in the division, including the arrest of a number of people connected to gangs and the recovery of guns.

7. Three dead, 300 hurt as strong quake jolts Japan’s Osaka

A powerful earthquake rocked Japan’s second city of Osaka on Monday, killing three people including a nine-year-old girl and injuring more than 300, according to an official tally.

8. Chef killed at cook shop in Clarendon

A 27-year-old chef was shot and killed at his cook shop by two armed men in Savannah Crossing, Palmers Cross in Clarendon yesterday.

9. Trump says US not ‘migrant camp’ amid family separation crisis

President Donald Trump insisted Monday that the United States would not become a “migrant camp,” as he faced soaring pressure to end the separation of immigrant families on America’s southern border.

 

10. South Africa’s Semenya to fight testosterone rule

South African Olympic champion Caster Semenya will go to court to challenge controversial new rules governing female athletes’ testosterone levels, her lawyers said on Monday.
