Sherlette Black covers classic
In 2015, Sherlette “Princess” Black finished third in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Festival Song Competition with Sweet Festival.
Black is still on a musical mission. She recently covered No Charge, originally recorded by Melba Montgomery. A version by Shirley Ceasar peaked at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975.
“I always loved this song since I was a little girl, the version I love the most was done by Tammy Wynette. It’s a beautiful song, and I think many people can relate to its message,” said Black.
MV Music produced her version. Black, a mother of two children, released another single, God Will Fix Things, in May.
Black, who is visually impaired, attended the Salvation Army School for the Blind in Kingston. She is a graduate of Statler Center in Buffalo, and holds an associate degree in massage therapy from the HEART/Trust NTA.
