Road fatalities down in April
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Road fatalities continue to show a downward trend since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
Based on a traffic crash update issued today (April 30) from the Ministry of Transport’s Road Safety Unit, 18 people died as a result of road accidents in April.
This is a decrease in comparison to April 2019, when the country recorded 47 road fatalities.
This is also a decrease from the 31 road fatalities in March, the 40 in February and the 44 recorded in January.
Motorcyclists still account for majority of the road users who are killed in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year.
Since the start of the year, 133 people have been killed in road accidents.
For the same period last year the number of deaths was 161.
