KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) is disputing what it calls “misinformation” in regards to the autopsy findings of Jodian Fearon, the first-time mother who was denied access to health care at several of the country’s core hospitals.

A post-mortem yesterday revealed that Fearon died from heart failure at the UHWI late Friday after being transferred from Spanish Town Hospital, where she had delivered her first child.

The UHWI today rebuked the disclosure of the autopsy findings, saying the sharing of this information prior to the determination of the cause of death, was premature.

The hospital noted that the cause of death is usually pending further ancillary testing.

“The hospital urges all to await a formal report from the qualified forensic pathologist. We urge sensitivity and the highest level of professionalism in this matter,” UHWI said in a statement.

It also urged all medical personnel to continue to refer patients to the hospital using standard medical protocols and to provide all relevant medical information to the hospital.
