Liberty, Hillel make statement as unbeaten runs continue
HILLEL Academy joined Lannaman’s at the top of Zone 1 in the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Alberga Cup Under-12 football competition, after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the previously undefeated Vaz Prep at Hillel in Wednesday’s round of fixtures.
The win carried the impressive Hillel outfit to a maximum nine points from their three assignments to date as they joined Lannaman’s, Emmanuel Christian Academy, Liberty Academy and Belair as the remaining unbeaten teams in the competition.
With overwhelming preseason favourites Lannaman’s idle on the day it was the American International School of Kingston (AISK) that took over goal-stocking duties in the zone with a massive 8-1 defeat of Obistan in their contest. St Hugh’s stopped Dunrobin 2-0 while Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) and Mavisville played out a 0-0 draw.
After their last two games were rained out Mona were finally able to get back into action — and they made the most of the opportunity with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Wolmer’s in their Zone Two matchup.
Morris Knibb defeated Meadowbrook 6-1 while Alvernia defeated St John 4-1 and Stella Maris edged St Andrew 1-0 in the zone’s other games.
Emmanuel continued to have their way in Zone Three with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Ardenne while Liberty Academy continued to keep pace with a 2-0 win over Queen’s in the only two games that were played in the zone.
Glenmuir secured the biggest win in Zone Four after they got the better of Great Start 11-1 while Belair and El Instituto also enjoyed victories over West Indies College Prep (9-0) and Charagape (2-1), respectively.
Emann bettered Fairfield 3-0 in the only match that was played in Zone 5.
The competition is to continue on Saturday with a full slate of games.
