Rajindra Campbell breaks national indoor shot put record again
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Ranjindra Campbell wrapped up his preparation for next weekend’s World Athletics Indoor Championships in Scotland by breaking the Jamaican national record in the men’s shot put, throwing 22.16m to beat a strong field at the World Indoor Tour Gold Madrid on Friday.
His throw is tied for third best in the world with New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, trailing American Ryan Crouser’s 22.80m and Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri-22.37m.
Campbell, who set the national outdoor record of 22.22 last year, also in Madrid, Spain, broke his previous best of 21.13m set on January 27 at a meet in Poland and was extending his own personal best – a fourth time this season.
In the meet on Friday, Campbell, a finalist at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary last August, beat New Zealand’s Walsh (22.03m) and Italy’s Fabbri (21.68 m.)
