#ParisOlympics: Shanieka Ricketts wins Olympic silver in triple jump

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Shanieka Ricketts won a  silver medal after she jumped a season’s best 14.87m (-0.7m/s) for second in the women’s triple jump at the Olympic Games at Stade de France in Paris on Saturday.

It was a brilliant comeback from her fourth placed finish in Tokyo, Japan three years ago,  and added to her two World Championships silver medals from 2019 in Doha, Qatar and 2022 in Eugene, Oregon.

It was Jamaica’s second medal of the day after Rajindra Campbell won a historic bronze in the men’s shot put earlier.

A second Jamaican, Ackelia Smith was seventh with 14.42m (0.3m/s), her best placing in a major global championships.

Thea LaFond of Dominica won the gold medal with a personal best and national record 15.02m (-0.4m/s), while American Jasmine Moore was third with a season’s best 14.67m (0.7m/s).

Ricketts’ best jump came in the second round after she opened with 14.61m (-0.1m/s) and also had a jump of 14.73m in the final round.
