Kemar ‘Taxi’ Lawrence signs historic deal with New York USL League One club
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Former Jamaican international Kemar ‘Taxi’ Lawrence has signed for newly formed USL League One team Westchester Soccer Club in what the club has described as “historic”.
The 32-year-old Lawrence, who last played for UTA Arad in the Romanian League, is the first signing by the New York-based club that will begin play in the 2025 season and will be based in the Mt Vernon area.
A release on the club’s website said it was announcing “the historic signing of their first ever player, bringing Major League Soccer and Jamaican International wing back Kemar Lawrence to the club.”
The left-sided player, who came through the ranks at many- time Jamaican Premier League champions Harbour View, has had extensive playing experience at the international club level and for the various Jamaican national teams, starting from the Under-17 level.
He played over 185 MLS games with the New York Red Bulls and 77 times for the Jamaican senior men’s national team.
The hope the Westchester club said was he “will be a key piece both on the pitch and in the community in the club’s inaugural season, which begins in April at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon.”
The signing is pending league and federation approval.
