Silly Walks to host Kingston Sessions on Friday
KINGSTON, Jamaica- German- based producer and sound system duo, Silly Walks Discotheque, in collaboration with the Cultural Authority of Hamburg, and local cultural partners are set to host Kingston Sessions on Friday.
Set to take place at 22 Jerk, Kingston Sessions aims to amplify reggae’s enduring global legacy while providing a platform for both emerging and established voices in the genre. Confirmed performers include JUNO award-winning reggae artiste Exco Levi, the soulful Christopher Ellis, rising star Khalia, and dynamic lyricist Eesah — with surprised acts to participate.
“We’ve always wanted to do something with artistes that we have worked with over the years. We did that on touring in Europe with some of the artistes like Esco Levi, but never in Jamaica. We played last year as a sound system, but never by ourselves. However, we never had a chance to collaborate on stage with the artistes that we have on our catalogue. It’s our first time, and we’re happy to do that,” Joscha Hoffmann, half of the duo told Observer Online.
The free acoustic show will feature stripped-down performances and backing tracks curated by Silly Walks. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed via Reggaeville, ensuring global access to this one-of-a-kind celebration.
“We are hoping to do this on a regular basis because we love to come to Jamaica every year to do our production work. It gives us the opportunity to expose our work and contribute to the reggae scene in Jamaica. I hope this will open up some gigs for some persons abroad to get to know their music,” Oliver Schrader, the other half of Silly Walks told the Observer Online.
Silly Walks Discotheque started in 1991 in the city of Hamburg. Four years later, it began producing songs and in 2001, released the Songs of Melody compilation album.
Their latest production is the Sandy Park Riddim.
