Secondary school flag football competition to kick off Saturday
Ahead of the NFL’s Super Bowl this weekend, Jamaica’s National Tackle Football Association (NTFA) will kick off its sixth staging of the Secondary School Gridiron League (SSGL) Flag Football competition on Saturday.
The competition, which will run until March 22, will feature boys’ and girls’ teams from 11 teams across Jamaica.
The NTFA says the SSGL “has experienced remarkable growth, with a significant surge in interest from schools and organisations nationwide” as well as “contributing to a notable decline in crime statistics within participating communities.”
SSGL Director Jerome Harriott is looking forward to a great start on Saturday.
“Football fans worldwide will be glued to their screens on February 9, watching the NFL Super Bowl. We’re excited to bring that same level of excitement to Jamaica the same weekend, as our young athletes take to the field to compete for flag football supremacy,” he said.
“We’re proud to provide a platform for boys and girls to develop their skills, build their confidence, and pursue their dreams of Olympic glory,” Harriott said.
