Lime Hall, Treasure Beach score big in JFF Championships

ST ANN, Jamaica — Lime Hall FC and Treasure Beach FC made big moves in last weekend’s 10th round of matches in the Jamaica Football Federation Championships after wins over Baptist Alliance SC and St Bess United, respectively.

Lime Hall took over the lead in Zone A after beating Baptist Alliance 3-1 and Spanish Town Police avenged their first-round loss to Meadforest FC, while Treasure Beach won for the third straight week and took over second place in Zone B.

Lime Hall FC leads Zone A with 20 points, one more than Meadforest FC, with Baptist Alliance and Tru Juice FC tied on 18 points each and Spanish Town Police next with 16 points.

Falmouth United, who were held 0-0 by Holland PYC, are still leading Zone B with 23 points, three more than Treasure Beach, with Reno FC in third with 19 points.

In the first game of a doubleheader at Drax Hall, Lime Hall scored two late goals to break a 1-1 tie with Baptist Alliance SC to beat the St Thomas team for the second time this season.

Javan Smith, who scored a double for Lime Hall, gave the St Ann team the lead in the 31st minute, and they held the advantage until the 55th minute when Orlando Ricketts equalised for Baptist Alliance SC.

Smith restored Lime Hall FC’s lead in the 69th minute before Jalando Williams scored a third goal in the time added.

Treasure Beach conceded a goal for the first time in four games, but by then they were leading St Bess United 4-0 in their St Elizabeth derby.

Tahjae Green scored in the 10th minute to open the scoring, but Treasure Beach had to wait until the 60th minute for their second goal, while Ferron Messam scored in the 66th minute and Antwone Smith scored in the 71st minute.

Daniel Dixon scored a consolation goal for St Bess United in the 86th minute.

Tru Juice FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Portlanders FC, who they had beaten in the first round, taking the lead in the fourth minute through an own goal, but the home team equalised through Jahmani Hamilton in the 80th minute.

Spanish Town Police got the better of Meadforest FC with second-half goals from Shayiem Barrack, who netted in the 60th minute, and Shamar Morrison, five minutes into time added.

Ntini Wilson, Antwone Wilson and Radcliffe Palmer all scored doubles for Progressive FC, who beat Grays Inn 6-4, with eight of the 10 goals coming in the second half.

Wilson opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but Rasheed Dennis, who also got a brace for Grays Inn, equalised in the 26th minute.

Antwone Wilson restored Progressive’s lead when he scored in the 47th minute and then made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute.

An own goal in the 54th minute drew Grays Inn to within a goal at 3-2 before Progressive got a flurry of goals — Ntini Wilson made it 4-2 in the 78th minute and Palmer scored his double in the 79th and 86th minutes to make the score 6-2.

Dante Dacres scored in the 89th minute and Dennis completed his brace in the 90th minute to cut the deficit to two.

Petersfield FC beat Duncans United 2-1. Travis Walters scored for Petersfield FC in the 24th minute before Jada Small equalised in the 86th minute, but Dushane Ewen scored the winner in the 90th minute.

Mt Pleasant FA Juniors got a rare win, coming from behind to beat Reno FC 2-1 at Drax Hall and avenged their first-round loss.

Yasser Bacchus gave Reno FC the lead in the 16th minute, but Demarko Smith equalised for Mt Pleasant FA in the 20th minute before Allyja Blythe scored the winner in the 68th minute.
