Run Julie Run storms to Legal Trophy victory
As expected, Run Julie Run, a talented four-year-old grey filly trained by Ian Parsard, lived up to her favourite status in the $1.4-million Legal Trophy, the main attraction on Sunday’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park.
Ridden by Reyan Lewis, she stalked the early leaders, Geolithic (Wesley Henry) and Neo Star (Richie Shakes) for most of the way in the nine-furlong-and-25-yards (1,820m) contest before taking control approaching the distance.
With a surge of speed, Run Julie Run cruised past the competition, crossing the finish line 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Inspire Force (Raddesh Roman) and Neo Star. The crowd cheered as she stopped the clock at 1:57.0 (25.1 x 48.3 x 1:14.3), showcasing her impressive endurance and skill.
Trainer Oral Hayden and jockey Richie Shakes both had two winners on the day.
Hayden saddled Another Mission (Emelio McLean) and Midnight Galaxy (Paul Francis) in the seventh and eighth races, respectively. Shakes opened the day aboard Bangarang for trainer Lincoln Lungs and closed the day aboard Brompton Alex for trainer Phillip Lee.
Horse racing continues next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
