SERHA hospitals modernised with advanced VoIP telephone system
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) has successfully implemented a modern Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone system across its key health facilities and administrative offices.
The new system has been activated at Kingston Public Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital, the regional and the corporate offices in New Kingston, providing a more efficient, reliable, and integrated communication platform to support healthcare delivery and administrative operations.
In a statement, SERHA said this investment represents another important milestone in it’s efforts to modernise its infrastructure and ensure that healthcare teams have the tools necessary to provide timely and efficient service to the public.
Replacing traditional telephone infrastructure, the advanced internet-based VoIP system enhances connectivity through clearer call quality, increased reliability, and more efficient communication across departments and facilities, particularly in emergency and high-demand clinical environments where rapid information sharing is critical to patient care.
The new system also minimises service interruptions commonly associated with conventional telephone networks and is expected to deliver long-term cost savings through greater operational efficiency, optimised resource utilisation, and lower maintenance expenses.
The next phase of the project, SERHA says, will include the implementation of the VoIP system at Bustamante Hospital for Children, Spanish Town Hospital, and National Chest Hospital, further expanding the authority’s digital communications network.
