Daniellia Dixon leads girls’ Under-20 400m qualifiers
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Daniellia Dixon clocked a personal best 53.47 seconds to lead the qualifiers into Sunday’s girls Under-20 400m final of the JAAA National Championships, winning her semi-final heat on Friday.
The former William Knibb Memorial standout, who finished fourth in the girls Class Two final at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships and later placed fourth at the Carifta Games, will be hoping to grab an individual spot at the World Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in August.
Foga Road High’s Shameika McLean, Jamaica’s fastest school girl this season with a best of 52.22 seconds, also progressed to the final after running 53.90 seconds. Joining her were Immaculate Conception’s Davine Dickenson (54.78), Holmwood Technical’s Kristen Herbert (55.10) and Alphansus Davis High’s Shanika Lindsay (54.92).
Also on Friday, Holmwood Technical’s Shamanda Wilmot captured the Under-18 girls’ javelin title with a winning throw of 43.55m.
