Sexual Harassment Tribunal receives 21 complaints in eight months
Jamaica’s Sexual Harassment Tribunal received 21 complaints between July 2025 and March this year.
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange says 62 per cent of the cases have been resolved and closed. She was speaking Tuesday during her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.
Grange told the Parliament that the enactment and implementation of the Sexual Harassment (Protection and Prevention) Act is among the Government’s proudest legislative achievements.
She noted that it will lead to a culture change in how we engage with each other in the workplace, in institutions and in the accommodation sector.
“I use this opportunity to again remind workplaces of the need, under the law, to develop policies for the prevention of sexual harassment and to ensure that the policies are brought to the attention of workers,” Grange urged.
She pointed out that the Bureau of Gender Affairs is standing by to provide assistance. She also shared that a mobile app was being developed to enable people in domestic violence situations to call for help. The app will integrate with the National 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline and will provide a discreet, secure, and accessible platform to respond to and support those who need help.
“The app will enable us to offer next level services as part of our continuum of care for survivors of gender-based violence. The app is coming, but the hotline is open now,” said Grange.
Persons needing help may call 876-553-0372.
