KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) is reporting that three men were convicted and sentenced in Westmoreland last week for Breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions Act).

In custody are 23-year-old Dion Labeach of Petersfield, 19-year-old Robert Yates of Frome and 23-year-old Javed Simms of Grange Hill, all in the parish.

Reports are that during an operation in the parish, Labeach was found to be in possession of lottery scamming paraphernalia, which was hidden in a Bible. He subsequently pleaded guilty to breaching the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act and was sentenced to five years at hard labour suspended for two years, and also fined J$250,000 or six months imprisonment for being in possession of identity information.

Meanwhile, Yates was sentenced to five years at hard labour suspended for two years and also fined J$250,000 or six months imprisonment on February 20, following an operation at premises he occupied, where lottery scamming paraphernalia was found.

Twenty-three-year-old Simms, who was arrested in October 2014 for similar offences, was convicted on Friday, February 13, 2015. He was also sentenced to five years at hard labour suspended for two years and also fined J$250,000 or six months imprisonment.
