Road repairs to reconnect Seaforth and Cedar Valley in St Thomas
KINGSTON, Jamaica — After being severed for many years, work is now underway to reconnect the main road between Seaforth and Cedar Valley in St Thomas.
The National Works Agency (NWA) in a news release on Tuesday said it is now in the process of constructing a box culvert at Johnson River in the parish.
The original structure was washed away about 12 years ago, when the parish was severely impacted by heavy rains. A detour route through the Serge Island property has been in use since the bridge collapsed.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the project which is valued at $22.8 million is being financed through the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s (MEGJC) Recurrent Budget 2016/2017. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May 2017, when the original road will be put back into operation.
