Tiler gets life for killing teen

Garfield Stewart, a 32-year-old tiler from the Maxfield Avenue community in St Andrew, was

last Friday sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a teenager in the area two

years ago.

Stewart, who was ordered to spend 25 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole, was found guilty on October 10 for the September 2006 murder of 18-year-old Kemar Sergent along Kew Road, off Maxfield Avenue in Kingston 13.

According to evidence led by the prosecution, Stewart and several other men took Sergent and another man to a premises on McDonald Lane and tied them up before leaving.
