Jamaica leg of Shanique Myrie case over; trial moves to Barbados
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica leg of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) trial in the case of Shanique Myrie against the Barbados government is complete.
Today’s sitting involved testimony from four witnesses for the government of Jamaica which obtained permission from the CCJ to act as interveners in the matter.
Witnesses were Avia James, John Wilson and Odiesha Brown, all of whom claimed that they were refused entry into Barbados because of their nationality, and Ephium Allen deputy director of the Passport Immigration and Citizenship (PICA).
In closing, Chief Justice Sir Dennis Byron expressed gratitude for the kindness afforded to him, his panel of judges and CCJ representatives, by the people of Jamaica.
The sitting will resume in Barbados on Monday, March 18 when evidence will be presented by the Barbados immigration department and other officers on behalf of the government of Barbados.
