Water restrictions tighten in Corporate Area
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) Wednesday afternoon (April 2) announced that effective immediately the Mona water treatment plant will be shut down nightly between the hours of 9:00pm and 4:00am.
Areas affected by the water restriction include: Hope Road and all roads leading off; Mountain View Avenue and all roads leading off; Devon Square; New Kingston; Lady Musgrave Road and all roads leading off; Maxfield Avenue, Liguanea; sections of Half Way Tree Road; Cross Roads and sections of Downtown Kingston.
The NWC said that with the prolonged dry conditions affecting inflows into the city’s two major water supply facilities, restrictions have become necessary.
Already the Constant Spring Treatment Plant, which is currently operating at 21.5 per cent of its usual capacity, has been placed on nightly closure, the NWC said in a statement.
And according to the NWC the water level at the Mona Treatment Plant is now at a critical low, at 40.5 per cent of the usual capacity.
