Queen’s maintain unbeaten run in ISSA netball
DEFENDING champions The Queen’s maintained their unbeaten run by scoring wins in the Junior and Senior Leagues as the second round of the 2014 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Digicel Urban High Schoolgirls netball competition got underway at the Leila Robinson Courts on Tuesday.
Queen’s Juniors easily defeated Camperdown High 36-14 after leading 16-7 at half time, while the Queen’s Seniors had to fight off a stiff challenge also from Camperdown High to come out with a close 27-23 win.
The match could have gone either way with Queen’s leading Camperdown 25-23 with one minute and 45 seconds remaining in the fourth and final quarter.
Marvette Anderson, coach of Queen’s, said she was not satisfied with the performance of the payers despite beating their opponents.
“Our shooting was very poor and we have to correct all these mistakes and also cannot afford to repeat them against our remaining opponents in our group,” she said.
Meanwhile, losing coach, Wayne Stewart of Camperdown, said players threw away their chances as they could have defeated Queen’s, but the players beat themselves in the closing stages.
“Right now we have to bounce back for the remaining matches as I think that we lost a great opportunity to upset the defending champions,” Stewart said.
Meanwhile, in Senior League, St Hugh’s continued on their winning ways with a crushing 45-17 win over Gaynstead High; Tarrant High defeated Norman Manley High 33-30; St Catherine High maintained winning form whipping Jonathan Grant High 37-17; St Andrew High got past Campion College 21-18; Holy Childhood High and Alpha Academy played to an exciting 25-25 draw.
