Jury shown photos of blood on seat of taxi at X6 trial
Jurors in the murder trial of businessman Patrick Powell were yesterday shown photographs of what resembled body tissue and blood splattered on seats inside the taxi which was carrying Khajeel Mais on the night he was shot and killed.
Pictures of what appeared to be bullet holes and gunshot damage in the seats as well as pictures of two expended bullets and a damaged bullet fragment that were taken from the teen’s body were also shown to the seven-member jury in the Home Circuit Court where Powell is being tried for the murder of Mais in July 2011, and shooting with intent.
The Crown is alleging that on the evening of the day in question, Mais was travelling in a taxi — a Toyota Succeed Station Wagon — in Havendale, St Andrew, when the taxi hit the back of a BMW X6.
It is further alleged that the collision infuriated the driver of the BMW X6, who exited his vehicle and fired shots into the taxi resulting in Mais being shot and killed.
Yesterday, during the trial, which had adjourned for most of the morning session to facilitate the editing of photographs, the jurors spent most of the afternoon session looking at photographs that were taken by police investigators.
Detective Sergeant Robinson, a forensic crime scene investigator, who was part of the police team that had processed the crime scene in July 2011 on Highland Drive, during his testimony explained details of several photographs that were taken by him and shown to the jury.
These include pictures of a spent shell, a gunshot hole on the rear licence plate, body tissue and substance resembling blood on the front passenger seat and head rest, and on the back seat. Photographs were also shown of two bullet holes on the front passenger seat, gunshot hole in rear back rest and scratch mark on the lower left side of the car.
Robinson will continue his evidence today when the trial resumes.
