Right move on renewable energy
Dear Editor,
Finally, we are introducing renewable energy technology to aid in building our resilience and sustainability.
I am a past student of Enid Bennett High where a rainwater harvesting system was installed by the Rural Water Supply Limited with solar-powered pumps. For years, I have been saying that this is needed.
This is the type of long-term investment the Government should continue to undertake, especially given the risks related to climate change. We suffered an extensive drought and consequent water crisis for months and it is good to hear a voice with new solutions.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Senator Pearnel Charles Jr, and the National Water Commission are moving in the right direction by implementing this forward-thinking solution. More of these systems are needed and this must be spread across the island.
Being an active alumni of the school, I experienced first-hand the commissioning and I am really proud of this investment and how it will help the students and administration to cultivate crops and help the several needy students that are fed weekly by our farm.
I also encourage the Government to work with service clubs to get these systems in the basic and primary schools across the country.
