Reno face Sandals Whitehouse in derby
FROME, Westmoreland — Leaders and mid-season champions Reno FC could face a tough fight on their hands today as they host Sandals Whitehouse FC in a Westmoreland derby at Frome as the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League continue with five games.
Reno had won their first-round meeting 2-1, but the Aaron Lawrence-coached Sandals Whitehouse have since worked their way to the top rung of the competition and are in third place on 22 points, seven behind Reno’s 29.
Also today, second-placed Savannah SC will play away to fourth-placed Tomorrow’s People at Jarrett Park; Holland United host Granville United at Elliston Wakeland Centre; Lucea host defending champions Wadadah FC at Rusea’s, and Montego Bay Boys’ Club take on Duanvale at the UDC Field.
All games will start at 3:00 pm, while tomorrow, Village United and Norwood Strikers meet at Elliston Wakeland at the same time.
These games were to have been played on Sunday, but were pushed back due the funeral services for the late referee Trevor Owens.
Reno have been on a good run, but the last time they faced another Westmoreland team, Savannah SC, at Frome, they were beaten and will not take Sandals Whitehouse lightly.
Sandals Whitehouse are coming off a big 5-0 whipping of Montego Bay Boys’ Club, while Reno got the better of Tomorrow’s People 2-1 at Jarrett Park.
Both Holland United and Granville United, who drew 0-0 in the first round, are seeking consistency, and both will be gunning for a result when they meet in Falmouth.
Granville United have moved up to fifth place on 20 points, one more than Holland, who are in seventh place, but coming off a big win over Norwood Strikers last week.
Tomorrow’s People will hope to avoid a third straight loss when they take on Savannah SC at Jarrett Park; they had played out a draw in the first meeting, but despite leading the competition in goals scored, Tomorrow’s People have slipped down the table to fourth place on 21 points.
Savannah have, meanwhile, worked themselves up to second place on 24 points with a game in hand.
Wadadah are expected to get the better of Lucea, in Lucea, while Montego Bay Boys’ Club will seek their second win of the season over Duanvale, the last team they beat, coming late in December last year.
